About Warren, Carmack & Associates

Warren, Carmack & Associates is a Salt Lake City, Utah, based research firm owned and operated by Sharon DeBartolo Carmack, CG and James W. Warren. Working at the renowned Family History Library, as well as onsite in the U.S., Ireland, and the British Isles, they offer a variety of genealogical and historical research, consulting, project management, writing, and editing services. Combined they have more than 36 years of full-time professional genealogical research experience in a wide range of areas, including Italian and Irish; immigrant and ethnic; general U.S.; New England, Mid-Western, and Southern states; DNA family studies; problem solving; and American Indian. Plus they can write (or help you write) your family history; edit, proofread, and index it; and help you get it published.

We emphasize family history projects, not “package deals.” Every family history project is unique and doesn’t conveniently fit into a “package.” Warren, Carmack & Associates provides high-quality, full-range, in-depth research services, with fully documented reports and compiled genealogies. While some genealogical firms cut costs by using inexpensive research help, Sharon and Jim are the researchers on your project. They will review and analyze what you already know about your family; develop a logical research plan unique to your project; conduct research in original, online, and published sources; regularly report to you the results and their evaluation; and should you desire, turn those research results into a book, booklet, charts, family health history, or Web site. If your project branches outside our area of expertise, we have a wide network of associates and colleagues on whose geographic and ethnic expertise we can call. We also make use of research assistants for simple clerical or record retrieval tasks.

Genealogy is one of the most popular topics on the Internet, with more than five million family history and genealogy Web sites. No doubt you’ve been online attempting to climb your family tree, searching such sites as Ancestry.com, Genealogy.com, RootsWeb, and the Ellis Island passenger arrival lists. We, too, make use of all those resources, but not everyone realizes that there is a lot of erroneous information on the Internet. We are experienced at analyzing the data online and ensuring that we are tracing your ancestors, not climbing a faulty family tree. Although more and more records and information are becoming available online, what’s available on the Internet is just a fraction of the original microfilmed records at the Family History Library or other research repositories that can be discovered for your family.
